Live Post From SxSW Session: Tools For Enhancement

Interesting things I’m hearing and considering right now:
- Recent neuroscience research indicates that focus and determination, regardless of innate talent, drives achievement of expertise in a field, so, in providing a user experience, facilitate their exercising of their focus and determination.
- Mirror neurons make us naturally empathetic with those we observe adding a dimension to personal observation of usage, versus compiling feedback off-line, off-site and otherwise separated.
- Seek opportunities to spur joyful experiences by users.
- Plant easter eggs.
- Credo at company Electric Rain: user must do something cool within 30 minutes.
- When someone accesses help or FAQ, the likely emotional state equates to giving the application the finger, and experience encountered should presume that.
- Don’t hate jargon which can be a highly efficient way for experts to communicate, just make sure non-experts have their own accessible forums and lexicons too.
- More from Electric Rain: “the experience of getting and installing should feel like a special gift” (I missed a word or two from that quotation)
